I Heart Innocent Wonder

The theme over at I Heart Faces this week is “Innocent Wonder.”

This is a photo I recently took of my grandson, Kole, who is a wonder, himself.  Our little holiday baby – he was due last year on New Year’s Day, but decided to join us early on Thanksgiving Day. He is a determined little fellow, enduring the needle pokes and prods of the first week of his life in the NICU ( neonatal intensive care unit) with a toughness you wouldn’t expect out of a just-barely five-pound boy.

Nick-named “Little Bit”, he is a determined little fellow now, walking before his first birthday and enduring many bumps and bruises in his quest to explore, learn and grow.

I love him with a fierceness that I never thought would be possible. The moment I saw him, just minutes after his birth, his determined blue eyes, in his tiny face, looked straight into mine and I knew that this child was going to be someone incredibly special.

I love the way this photo captures his innocence and his wonderful “baby blues.”

    • Thanks, Lori. And I know, from reading your blog, how much you love your grandchildren. They are so special and innocent, aren’t they?

  1. Oh, those beautiful blue eyes…

The Young One was 3 months premature and weighed 2 lbs. 4 1/2 oz. I understand about the needles and poking a prodding – far more than I ever wanted to, and entire 6 weeks worth. I also know about the tenacity of those preemies, and it never goes away. Thank goodness. 🙂
