Red Begonias for Ruby Tuesday

I took this photo at Duplin Nursery. They have so many greenhouses full of all kinds of flowers and plants that it makes choosing which ones to buy an impossibility.

I couldn’t afford to buy everything I wanted. So I did the next best thing. I took pictures of it all!

I’m submitting this photo for Ruby Tuesday.

For  Ruby Tuesday , you post one of your own  photos that contains something red. It can be a whole lotta red, or a little bit of red. I like the eclectic collection of pictures of anything red,  so I love to play.

The Red Stand for Ruby Tuesday

Well it’s Tuesday, y’all. Yesterday I wrote about how I like to take photos everywhere I go, with an eye out for something to use in one of the photo memes I like to participate in. Yesterday’s photo was a macro shot of my food in Key West that I took for Macro Monday. On the same trip to Florida last month, I snapped this photo with Ruby Tuesday in mind.

This red lifeguard stand was taken at the beach in Siesta Key, Florida. You can read more about the trip we took last month and how Siesta Key has always been on my bucket list here.

I managed to snap some extraordinary photos on the beach at sunset, which I will be sharing in a later post.

I’m submitting this photo for Ruby Tuesday.

The Perfect Day

Day number 25 of this Daily Post  Challenge. It seems like it’s been longer than that, y’all.

Today’s topic suggestion is to write about your idea of a perfect Sunday. A few Sundays ago, my husband and I packed a few clothes,  got up early on Sunday morning and drove all day to Florida. The two of us love going on impromptu trips. The more spontaneous they are, the more we like them.

Last year we bought a bright red corvette. It was my husband’s dream car. He has always wanted one and we found an incredible bargain on Ebay. It has turned driving into an absolute joy for him, and we have added a lot of miles to this car in the ten months that we have owned it.

We have always wanted to drive down to Key West, but after we bought this car, we just had to, y’all. Here is a picture of my husband in front of the car at the Southernmost Point. We parked her there, and I jumped out with the camera for this shot. The whole time there was a cab driver screaming what the fuck, man? at us to move!

My best friend is my husband. He is always there for me – through the good times and the bad. He takes care of me in so many ways. Every night before he comes to bed, he makes sure the doors are locked, the lights are off, the cat is out and the dog is in, the coffee is made and the coffee pot is ready to be plugged in the next morning.

He does all the “man” jobs, from changing the oil in the car and cutting the grass –  to climbing up into the attic to get the Christmas decorations down. But he also does the laundry and carefully hangs up my delicate items. He knows how to make up the grocery list, and if need be, he buys the groceries. He does the dishes, every night. He sweeps and vacuums and dusts. He cooks  almost as well as I can, and for all the times he does the whole dinner, without much help from me – I would never complain.

Every day, and I do mean every day (or night) that we have to work, he prepares our food and packs our lunch box. He makes sure we have cold water and beer in our refrigerator. He rounds up and takes the trash out to the curb weekly. He organizes and hauls off our recyclables. He brings in the newspaper daily, at the crack of dawn.

He takes our dog for walks when it is freezing, or raining or I am just too tired to go. He puts food in her bowl twice a day. He  feeds my cat and lets her live is good to her, even though she has a nasty habit of trying to climb up on top of his car, and she has already left her claw mark on the back of it!

Every day in the winter, if there is ice on the car’s windshield, he is the one who gets out in the freezing temperatures to scrape it off.  He starts the car before I come out of the house – to make sure it is warm for me.

He never complains. He never asks me for help. If you ask him why he does all of these things, he says, “Because Ginger never has a headache.” “So Ginger doesn’t have to!”

He’s funny. His mission in life is to try to make everyone, but mostly me, laugh. His humor is sometimes impossible for me to get a little different from mine, but he never stops trying, and that is enough to make me smile. I posted this photo of him a couple of days ago, and it pretty much sums of what a kook he can be.

He tells me several times, every day, that I am beautiful, sexy, and that he loves me.

He accepts my family, and does whatever he can to help them too. My grandchildren, by my sons from my first marriage, are our grandchildren. He loves them as much, and worries about them as much, as I do.

And more important than all of  that, he listens to me. He shares things with me. He trusts me. We talk about everything and anything. We agreed a long time ago that there would be no secrets between us. We know each other so well that I don’t think it would be possible for either one of us to have one.

So my idea of a perfect Sunday? Going to Key West with my best friend is right up there at the top of my list. But really, spending the day with my wonderful man, doing anything or nothing,  is enough to make it a perfect day.

Random Tuesday Questions

randomtuesdayKeely, over at Unmom, does this thing.

You post Random Thoughts on Tuesday. That’s it. Try it – it’s addicting. Then link back to Unmom and see what other people are randomly thinking and typing about.

IMG_6600

I think I finally have this Random Thoughts posting figured out, y’all. What I have to do to make this happen is to keep a little list in a notebook of things that pop into my mind the day before. Because I cannot come up with a bunch of random thoughts first thing on a Tuesday morning. I’ve tried it and it can’t be done.

So yesterday, when I dreamed up this little plan, I got my notebook out and turned it to a blank page, ready to fill it up with all sorts of randomness.

There was only one problem. I could not find a pen.

Which leads me to my first question.

1. How many pens do you have to buy –  to be able to have just one somewhere, anywhere, when you need one?

I have bought package after package of pens. I don’t think it matters how many you buy and put in your junk drawer, they are going to disappear. I think there is a black hole in my house that sucks pens into it when I’m not looking.

Which leads me to my second question.

2. Do y’all think it is possible that there is a cosmic black hole (or something) located directly over my house in Wilmington, North Carolina?

Seriously, have I missed the YouTube video about this? I swear there is something wrong down here, because I cannot…CANNOT…talk on a cell phone inside my house!

I used to think it was the crappy phone and/or the crappy service I used to have. So. I waited patiently for my two year contract to expire, all the while enduring calls that sounded like this : “Mom? Hi……when….so…..then…..she said…..and….before…..what was…..yesterday……important…..what do you think?”

So I’d say, “Klinton, you’re breaking up. I can’t hear you. Hold on. Let me try going outside.”

To which he’d say, “Mom? Are you there? Mom?”

Then I’d hear that joyful little electronic jingle that tells me the phone has dropped the call.

Not fun. So it’s two years later and now I have a much nicer phone with a cool little slide out QWERTY keyboard and everything. I have Verizon service now, which is supposed to be top notch, or at least way better than what I had before.

I was so excited. Now I could text! I could talk inside the house and not have to stand outside in the cold, and the rain, and the dark.

But nooooooooo. I guess I just need to learn morse code or something. It is not meant for me, in 21st century America, to be able to use an easy electronic devise like a cell phone in my own home.

The phone works inside the Corning factory, where I work. (I never even got a signal there on my old phone.)  It worked in the rural contryside of Upstate New York, with no problem. It worked at the airport, in the grocery store, in the car, at the hairdressers, at other people’s homes…..just not in mine.

So, see? I obviously live directly underneath a black hole.

Yesterday, while I was searching in vain for a pen, I noticed something. So here’s my third and final question.

3. Is it normal for animals to follow you around all day and look at you when you get a day off?

Because that’s all mine do, y’all. My rottweiler and my cat follow me from room to room while I gather laundry, put things away, look for pens, curse mutter under my breath because I can’t find one, fix a cup of coffee, toast a bagel, read the newspaper, sit at the computer, brush my teeth, or whatever….they follow and they stare.

IMG_6614

They stare at me as if they don’t know who I am. They stare at me as if they expect me to do some kind of puppet show to amuse them. They stare at me accusingly, as if to say, “Geez, we waited all week for you to have a day off – FOR THIS??”

IMG_6613

I eventually got tired of looking for a pen, while the damn animals tried to give me a guilt trip, and gave up. Anyway, I had forgotten what I wanted to write down by then. So if I can find a pen between now and next Tuesday, maybe I’ll be able to compose a nice list of random stuff.

Or, I might not.

One for Two Memes

IMG_1783

I’m working the night shift this week, y’all. And let me tell ya, it ain’t easy. Besides being bone-tired, sleep deprived, and confused – my feet hurt, my head hurts and I don’t have time to take care of my awful looking chipped nails. Bleh! I had to sleep all day on Mother’s Day, and barely managed to get up in time to see a few of my kids. I had one eye open and was slurping down a cup of coffee.

So I’m gonna be kinda lazy and post one picture for two of my favorite memes.

This is a macro shot of fiber optic grass and a couple of fresh tomatoes. The grass really caught my eye, when I was shopping for some small containers of plants to give as favors at the eco-friendly baby shower that I threw for my first grandchild.  Since my husband and I both work at Corning, and we make fiber optic glass, I just love this plant! And the tomatoes spoke to me and said, “Include us in the picture! We’d be perfect for Ruby Tuesday!”

SO, this picture is for Macro Monday AND Ruby Tuesday.

Macro Monday

For Macro Monday, you take a close up picture that you think is blog-worthy, post it, and link back to Macro Monday so everyone can visit everyone! (That’s southeren-eese for leave each other comments, if you know what’s good for ya.)

For  Ruby Tuesday , on Tuesday you post one of your own  photos that contains something red. It can be a whole lotta red, or a little bit of red. I liked the eclectic collection of pictures I saw over at  Work of the Poet, so I decided to play.

Red Toes for Ruby Tuesday

img_0943

Today’s photo is mainly to satisfy my husband’s “feetish”. That’s southern slang, around these parts, for “foot fetish.” Anyways, he took this photo on Christmas day of my toes, all dressed up for the holiday, in “Affair In Red Square” by OPI. Wearin’ fancy flip flops on Christmas Day! It really is a Wonderful Life, y’all.

This is for Ruby Tuesday , a photo sharing concept, or meme. Every Tuesday you post one of your own  photos that contains something red. It can be a whole lotta red, or a little bit of red. I liked the eclectic collection of pictures I saw over at  Work of the Poet, so I decided to play.

A Red Dress for Ruby Tuesday
